After sold-out runs in 2016 & 2017, The Cherry is bringing back Ithaca’s unexpected and delightful holiday family favorite The Snow Queen for its third incarnation. Developed by the Cherry Arts ensemble, our original musical adaptation of this Hans Christian Andersen classic grows each year with new songs, new puppetry and fresh, imaginative theatrical magic. The Ithaca Times called The Snow Queen “A delightful performance… always inventive… dazzling… simply wonderful!” This year Scott Hitz of Pupphitz joins us as puppetry director, promising even more imaginative surprises. Families won’t want to miss this mind-expanding adventure!

Adapted from the beloved Hans Christian Andersen classic, The Snow Queen tells the story of Greta, a brave young girl on a mission to rescue her best friend Kai from the clutches of the nefarious Queen, encountering along the way a friendly reindeer, a chatty raven, a feisty robber girl, and a host of other curious characters.

The Cherry’s version of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale (which inspired Disney’s Frozen) was developed in 2016 over the course of nine months by members of the Cherry Arts company, resulting in an innovative and locally-grown adaptation like none before!
